Life jail term handed down to Tembisa South rapist

Details Media Statement South African Police Service Office of the Provincial Commissioner Gauteng GAUTENG - On 20 September 2022, a 12-year-old girl alleged that she was raped during the day by a neighbour who regularly sent her to buy cigarettes for him in Welamlambo Section, Tembisa South. The victim alleged that, after she brought the cigarettes to the accused, he forcibly took her into his room and locked the door and raped her twice. The victim, disclosed what had transpired to her friends, and one of them notified her parents. The matter was reported to the SAPS Tembisa South, where a case was registered and assigned to Detective Warrant Officer Kolobe Amia Kwenaite of the Tembisa Family Violence, Child and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation. Following a thorough investigation, the suspect was arrested. The accused Philani Gatsheni Ndlovu (47 years old) was found guilty on 3 July 2026 by the Tembisa Magistrateโ€™s Court and sentenced to life imprisonment for rape. Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, welcomed the conviction and praised Detective Warrant Officer Kolobe Kwenaite of the Tembisa Family Violence, Child and Sexual Offences Unit for her professionalism, commitment, and diligent investigation, which played a significant role in ensuring justice for victims of gender-based violence in the Ekurhuleni District.
